2 suspected JMB men killed in ‘gunfight’

Dhaka: Two suspected members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were killed in a reported gunfight with detectives in the Hazaribagh area of Dhaka on Wednesday night.
United News of Bangladesh reports, the deceased is Hiron, and Abdullah alias Noman.
Additional deputy commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sanowar Hossain said Detective Branch (DB) arrested three JMB men from Kamrangirchar on Wednesday following information gleaned from the militants arrested during a 14-hour drive at a militant den in the city’s Mirpur area on 24 December.
The detectives were going to launch a drive at Hazaribagh along with the arrested militants, he said.
However, a group of militants in two motorcycles hurled grenades and opened fire on the law enforcers when they reached Beribandh behind ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College Hospital at about 11:30pm.
The DB team fired in self-defence that triggered a gunfight. Two bullet-hit militants were found lying on the ground after the gun battle.
They were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Sanowar also said a motorcycle, used during the attack on a check-post in Ashulia on 4 November last that left an industrial police constable dead, was also found after the gunfight.
On 24 December, a DB team launched a raid on the top-floor of a six-storey building in the city’s Mirpur area.
Later, the DB team along with its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and bomb disposal unit, and police from Shah Ali Police Station conducted another drive at the apartment.
During the drive, they arrested seven suspected JMB men from two apartments and recovered 16 handmade grenades, three crude bombs and huge quantity of explosives.
