Dhaka: A woman and her son were found murdered at their multi-storey building in capital Dhaka's Kakrail area on Wednesday evening.

The deceased were Shamsun Nahar, 40, wife of Abdul Karim, and their son Shawon, 22.

Police went to the six-storey building at VIP Road of Kakrail, opposite to Willes Little Flower School and College, and recovered their bloodstained bodies, said Inspector (Investigation) of Ramna Police Station Shafiqul Islam.

He said the Nahar's body was found on the floor of their 4th floor residence while that of Shawon on the staircase in between the 4th and 3rd floors.

Neighbours said Shawon's father Karim owns the building.

Rashida, a housemaid, was staying at the flat when the incident took place.

Talking to reporters after the incident, Rashida said she was working in the kitchen in the evening when someone locked its door from outside. "I thought amma (Nahar) closed the door. I requested her to open the door but nobody responded," she said, adding that the security guard of the building opened the door later.

Quoting the guard, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Nafid Kamal said one unknown person came out of the building and asked the guard to go upstairs saying there was quarreling.

When he went up, he found Shawon lying on the staircase on a pool of blood while Nahar inside her apartment, Nafid quoted the guard.

However, he did not mention the name of the guard.

Senior police officers, including Joint Commissioner of DMP Krishna Pad Roy, visited the spot.

Police found multiple injuries to the bodies of both the mother and her son, Krishna said.
