‘Top criminal’ killed in Lakshmipur ‘gunfight’

Lakshmipur: A suspected top criminal was killed in a reported gunfight between two miscreant gangs at Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased is Masum Billah alias Laden Masum, said police. Police claimed to have recovered some arms from the spot.

The Chandraganj police Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Moktar Hossain told NTV Online Laden Masud is a resident of the village of Laharkani of Sadar upazila in Lakshmipur. He is wanted in 28 cases including murder and extortion cases.

Police recovered the body of Masum form the Boter Pukurpar area at Balaishpur under Boshikpur union of the upazila and sent it to morgue.

Police said members of two miscreant gangs, Kala Masud, Shahadat, and Laden Masum exchanged bullets at about 3:00am for establishing supremacy in the area. Masum died on the spot.

Police recovered two LG, a double-barreled gun, a single-barraled gun, shells of 11 bullets, and 30 hydraulic bombs form the spot.

The OC said hearing the sound of firing police went to the spot, however, the miscreants ran away sensing the presence of police. The law enforcers found a bullet-hit body. Later, local people identified the body as Laden Masum.
