Cox’s Bazar: Around 3,000 more Rohingyas, fleeing persecution in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, have gathered at the no-man’s land of Anjumanpara along the border in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday to enter Bangladesh.

Major Iqbal Ahmed, deputy captain of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)-34 Battalion, said some 20,000 Rohingyas have been staying in Medi border point area of Myanmar for the last two days.

Of them, some 3,000 Rohingyas, most of them are women and children, crossed the Naf river and entered into the noman’s land of Anjumanpara on Wednesday evening.

They later took shelter in several fish hatcheries and Anjumanpara dam area under the open sky, he added.

The rest of 17,000 Myanmar nationals have been staying in Medi border point area.

Sultan Ahmed, a UP member of Anjumanpara Ward No 9 of Palangkhali union of Ukhiya, said some 3,000 Rohingyas took shelter in the no-man’s land of Anjumanpara on Wednesday evening.

On information, relatives of the Rohingyas, who are sheltered in Cox’s Bazar camps, also gathered there to find out their kith and kin ones, he said.

Contacted, Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nikaruzzaman, said, ‘I have heard that around 3,000 Rohingas, crossing Naf river, have taken shelter in the zero-point area of Anjumanpara.’

Talking to UNB, Saikat Biswas, the district co-coordinator of International Organisation of Migration (IOM) said more Rohingyas are still waiting on the other side of the border to enter Bangladesh.
