Savar: Around twenty-eight suspected robbers were arrested after a reported gunfight with police at Nabinagr Bus Stand area in Ashulia of Savar early on Friday.

Abdul Awal, officer-in-charge of Ashulia police station, said that tipped off that a gang of inter-district robbers is preparing for committing robberies, police took position on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway on Thursday midnight.

At one stage, they intercepted a Savar-bound bus, coming from Manikganj. Sensing danger, the robbers opened fire on police prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

Later, police detained 28 robbers and seized one foreign-made pistol, five bullets, two magazines, locally made firearms, 24 mobile handsets and Tk 10,000 in cash from their possessions.
