Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday urged all to work collectively to combat coaching business for ensuring healthy atmosphere in the education sector.

‘Teachers, guardians as well as managing committees of educational institutions should make sincere efforts to root out coaching business from educational arena,’ he told a workshop at LGED Bhaban here, an official release said on Thursday.

Secondary Education Quality and Access Enhancements Project (SEQAEP) organized the workshop for teachers of schools and madrasas in disadvantaged areas.

A section of dishonest teachers are involved in private coaching business, which has negative impact on the students of poor families, the education minister added.

As many educational institutions do not have adequate number of skilled teachers of many important subjects, the government has recruited efficient teachers under the SEQAEP project for those schools and madrasas, which are located in remote areas.

Nahid said as many as 9,54,000 classes at 400 schools were taken by SEQAEP recruited teachers for the period of 2.5 year since 2010. The SEQAEP programme has significantly helped the students of poor families to continue their studies, he added.
