Dhaka: Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday caught a Waqf official red-handed while taking bribe.

An ACC team, led by its director Nasim Anwar, arrested assistant administrator of the Office of the Administrator of Waqfs Bangladesh Md Motahar Hossain Khan from his office at 12:25pm, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told news agency UNB.

Md Faruk Hossain, a member of Keraniganj Baghair Jame Mosque Motowalli (caretaker) Committee, recently went to the Waqf office for having permission to sell a Waqf land of the mosque, but Motahar demanded Tk 50,000 for this work.

The victim then submitted a complaint against the Waqf official with the Commission using its hotline - 106. In consultation with the ACC officials, the complainant went to the Waqf office on Sunday to give Motahar Tk 50,000 in bribe.

While receiving the money, the ACC team caught him at about 12:25 pm. The team also seized Tk 69,000 from his possession.

Later in the day, ACC deputy assistant director Md Nazim Uddin of its Dhaka divisional office filed a case against Motahar Hossain with Ramna Police Station in this connection.
