University student killed over ‘cricket betting’
Dhaka: A university student was stabbed to death by a young man at the post office lane of Badda in Dhaka on Monday morning.
The deceased is Nasim Ahmed, in his twenties, a student of Manarat University.
Nasim’s neighbour, Mohammad Limon, recovered him in critically injured condition at about 9:30am and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, at about 10:45am, doctors declared him dead.
Limon said a young man in his early twenties stabbed Nasim at a lane near his residence and fled from the spot. However, Limon could not identify the attacker.
Nasim’s father, Saifuddin Ahmed said Nasim was a year III students of BBA in Manarat University.
He said Nasim had an argument with a man, Ramzan, over cricket betting at a shop in front of their residence on Sunday night. At one stage, Nasim slapped Ramazan and they involved in a clash.
Being informed, Nasim’s father went to the spot, where Ramzan’s uncle, Abdur Rashid beat him, too. Later, Saifuddin Ahmed and Abdur Rashid resolved their conflict. They were supposed to sit for the issue in this evening.
However, Saifuddin claimed his son was killed centring the betting and dispute.
DMCH police camp sub-inspector Bacchu Mia said the body has several stab wounds on his chest and stomach. The body was kept at the morgue.
