Blogger Avijit murder accused held

Dhaka: Members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) arrested a most wanted accused from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Sunday night in connection with the killing of blogger and writer Avijit Roy.
The arrestee was identified as Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib, an active member of intelligence branch of Ansarullah Bangla Team.
A special team of CTTC conducted a drive in Iqbal Road area around 08:05pm and arrested Siddiq, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He also said that Siddiq was identified as accused after analysing the CCTV footage.
In a primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed that he is an active member of ABT. He had direct involvement in the murder, said sources.
Avijit, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death, and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya was injured as unidentified killers attacked them with meat cleavers near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus on February 26 in 2015.
