Avijit murder accused confesses his involvement before court
Dhaka: Abu Siddiq Sohel alias Sakib, who was arrested in connection with the killing of blogger and writer Avijit Roy on Monday morning, confessed to his involvement in the murder before a court here in the afternoon.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib recorded the statement of Sohel, an active member of intelligence branch of Ansarullah Bangla Team, from 2 pm to around 6 pm.
Inspector MD Moinul Islam of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) produced the accused before the court after arresting him on Sunday night from city’s Mahammadpur area.
He was identified as an accused after analysing a CCTV footage.
Avijit, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death, and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya was injured as unidentified killers attacked them with meat cleavers near TSC on the Dhaka University Campus on February 26 in 2015.
