Satkhira: A top leader of a pirate gang was killed in a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Chunkuri Khal in Sundarbans under Satkhira range on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Nannu Molla, second-in-command of ‘Zonab Bahini’.
Jahidul Islam, Lt Commander of RAB-6, said that on secret information, a team of RAB conducted a drive in the area.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back for self defense, triggering a gunfight.
After the gunfight, the elite force arrested bullet-wound Nannu from the spot.
Later, he died on his way to Shyamnagar upazila health complex, said Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station.
The RAB members also recovered three pipe guns, two pistols and 26-round bullet from the spot.
