Chittagong: Two journalists were injured as a group of miscreants allegedly beat up them at Jamal Khan in the city early on Wednesday.

The injured journalists are Riaz Haidar Chowdhury, chief of Chittagong bureau of vernacular daily Bangladesh Pratidin, and online journalist Swarap Bhattacharjya.

Victim Riaz Haider said he along with Swarap was going to Jamal Khan riding on a rickshaw after visiting ill journalist SM Ibrahim at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 1:00am.

When they reached Jamal Khan intersection, a group of miscreants waylaid them, beat up them and snatched away their mobile phone sets, wallets and other valuables at gun point.

Following the incident, they filed a case with Kotwali Police Station.

Meanwhile, police arrested two hoodlums—Kaiser Hamid and Shakhawat Hossain—in connection with the incident and recovered the mobile phone sets, wallets and other valuables of the journalists, said SM Mostain Hossain, deputy commissioner (South) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
