Khaleda Zia to appear before court in graft case Thursday
Dhaka: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before a special court here on Thursday and deliver her self-defence statement further in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The BNP chief will go to the court around 11:00am, said her media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan on Wednesday.
Khaleda Zia started presenting her self-defence statement in the case before the makeshift court of Special Judge-5 at Bakshibazar on October 19.
As she could not complete her statement during the last four consecutive hearings, the court on November 9 gave her further time to end it on Thursday.
Sayrul said Khaleda Zia is unlikely to complete her self-defence statement on Thursday as well.
On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 21.0 million (2.10 crore) that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
On August 8, 2011, the commission filed the Zia Charitable Trust graft case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
