Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said Saturday’s citizens’ gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan is not any counter political programme of BNP.

‘Tomorrow’s citizen gathering is not any counter programme of BNP’s rally and AL does not organize any counter programme,’ he said, reports the BSS.

He said this while visiting the preparation of the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka this morning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to speak as the chief guest while Convener of Nagorik Committee Emirates Professor Dr Anisuzzaman will preside over the programme.

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister said those, who believe in the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and believe in the country’s independence and spirit of freedom, would join the rally on Saturday.

AL Presidium Member and Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for Jute and Textile Mirza Azam, AL Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumer Ukil were also present.

Quader said AL’s programme was scheduled far earlier than BNP’s November 12 rally. ‘BNP followed the AL programme,’ he said.

Nagorik Committee is organising the rally on Saturday at 2:30 pm marking the UNESCO recognition of historic March 7 speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of world’s documentary heritage.
