Husband, microbus driver to be quizzing over RU student abduction

Rajshahi: A Rajshahi court on Sunday placed Sohel Rahman, husband of the abducted female student of Rajshahi University, and microbus driver Jahidul Islam on a one-day police custody for interrogation in a case over the abduction of the girl from the campus.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order after sub-inspector Ismail Hossain of Motihar Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 5-day police custody for quizzing, said Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) assistant commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam.
Besides, the court also sent Sohel's father Joynal Abedin to jail.
In a press conference in the morning, RMP police commissioner Mabubur Rahman said that with the help of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, a special team of RMP rescued the abducted student from a marriage registry office at Rayer Bazar in the capital on Saturday and arrested Sohel Rana and the microbus driver.
Mabubur Rahman said that Sohel married her off in December last year. Later, she divorced Sohel two months ago. As it needs more than three months to mature the divorce, Sohel abducted the female student to force her to withdraw the divorce petition.
On Friday morning, the Bangla Department's final year female student, who used to reside at RU Tapashi Rabeya Hall was abducted in front of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Hall by her former husband around 8:15am while the student along with two her classmates was heading toward department to attend one of her final year examinations.
Following the incident, the student's father Amzad Hossain filed an abduction case with Motihar Police Station on Friday evening accusing five persons including the student's former husband Sohel Rana and Sohel Rana's father Joyal Abedin.
On the day, Police arrested Joybal Abdin from his residence at Patnital village of Noagoan.
