Brahmanbaria: Four people, including a Juba Dal leader, have so far been arrested in connection with violence in Brahmanbaria town over the death of a madrasah student in a triangular clash on 12 January, reports local news agency.

The arrestees are Chhoton, Rabbi, Shahjalal and Sadar upazila Juba Dal organizing secretary Shahadat Hossain.

The Sadar police officer-in-charge Mainur Rahman said they arrested Chhoton, Rabbi and Shahjalal on Saturday night and Shahadat Hossain on Sunday night.

Earlier on 12 January, madrasah students went on a rampage through the district town, protesting the death of Masudur Rahman, a student of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasah, who was injured in a clash on the day before.

They also vandalised 12 establishments, set fire on two establishments and blocked the rail track during their daylong violent demonstrations.

At least 20 people, including Masudur, were injured in a triangular clash among the madrasah students, local traders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League over a trifling matter at Zilla Parishad Market in TT Road area on 11 January.

A total of 12 cases were filed over the violence.
