It’s tough time for people: Fakhrul
Thakurgaon: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said people are going through a tough time as the government has resorted to 'enforced disappearance, killing and arrest of its opponents obliterating democracy'.
"Killing, enforced disappearance and arrest are going on without any pause. The government has destroyed all the pillars of democracy and snatched people's all basic and voting rights," he said.
The BNP leader came up with the comment while speaking at the biennial council of Thakurgaon district unit Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at Zia Parishad auditorium here.
He turned emotional while describing the repression on BNP leaders and activists by the government. "Our several hundred leaders and activists have been made disappeared. Their children still wait for their return," a weeping Fakhrul told the council.
He alleged that people, including women and children, have now no security as the law-and-order situation deteriorated sharply. "Opening the newspapers, you'll only find the news on repression on women, killing and enforced disappearance."
The BNP leader warned the government that it will not be able to suppress their party with repressive acts.
He said the government is trying to hang onto power by force as it has got completely isolated from people.
Fakhrul called upon people from all walks of life to get united to wage a strong movement for the restoration of their rights and democracy by defeating the current regime.
