Savar: Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury on Wednesday said the Election Commission (EC) will take all necessary steps to keep the law and order situation under control during the next parliamentary elections.

He made the remark after inaugurating the smart card distribution programme among the voters at Savar Upazila Auditorium in the morning.

Replying to a query, he said, ‘EC has no plan to deploy Army in the upcoming Rangpur City Corporation election. Regular law enforcing agencies are enough to conduct the polls freely and fairly.’

Local MP Dr Enamur Rahman and secretary to the EC Helaluddin Ahmed were, among others, present at the programme.
