HC questions legality of Viqarunnisa committee
Dhaka: The High Court on Tuesday asked authorities to explain why a seven-member special governing committee headed by lawmaker Rashed Khan Menon of Viqarunnisa Noon School & College would not be declared illegal.
A two-member panel of Justice Jinat Ara and Justice Kamrul Kader made the ruling on Tuesday after hearing a writ petition filed a day ago.
The court also asked education secretary, the chairman of Dhaka Educational Board, president of the committee Rashed Khan Menon MP and College Inspector of Dhaka Board to explain their position within four weeks.
Advocate Yunus Ali Akand stood for the petitioner and Deputy Attorney General Rashed Jahangir for the state.
In 2012, Akand filed a writ changeling the legality of the special committee of the Viqarunnisa Noon School & College.
After primary hearing of the writ on February 17, 2013, the HC had issued a rule to explain why the committee would not be declared illegal.
‘Though the rule has been under court proceedings, the government again formed a special committee, which is a contempt of court’, the petitioner argued.
