Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid on Thursday night expressed shock at the death of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) first Mayor Annisul Huq.

Annisul, who had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in London, passed away there at 4:23pm (London time) on Thursday at the age of 66.

In a condolence message, the President expressed profound shock at the death of Annisul, also a successful businessman, entrepreneur and political leader.

‘The nation has lost an eminent businessman and a successful industrialist with the death of Annisul . . . His death is really an irreparable loss for the country,’ the President said.

Abdul Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Annisul was put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs.

Annisul was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital.

Doctors of the hospital removed the ventilation apparatus from his mouth at 4.23pm (London time), declaring him dead.

His body will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday morning and later, he will be buried at Banani graveyard following a namaz-e-Janaza at Army Stadium after Asr prayers.
