Six hacked to death in four districts
A total of six people were chopped to death in separate incidents on Saturday in four districts.
In Kishoreganj: A woman and her two children were chopped to death and her husband was injured in an attack over a land-related dispute at Tarakandi village in Pakundia upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased are Taslima, about 28 years old, wife of Mosharraf Hossain, and their son Niloy, about 10 years old, and daughter Raisa, about 6 years old.
Officer-in-charge of Pakundia Police Station Shamsuddin said Mosharraf had long been at loggerheads with his cousin Mobin over the ownership of a piece of land.
Mobin engaged in an altercation with Mosharraf in the morning over the issue.
At one stage, he swooped on Mosharraf and his family members with a sharp weapon around 6am and hacked them indiscriminately, leaving Taslima and the two children dead on the spot and Mosharraf injured.
Police arrested Mobin from the spot and sent the bodies to Kishoreganj Modern Sadar Hospital, the OC said.
In Comilla: A young man was chopped to death and two others were injured in an attack allegedly by local Jaitya Party men over playing badminton at Darichar village in Homna upazila on Friday night.
Police said a group of young men, including Rubel, son of Warish Miah, was playing badminton in the night.
At one stage, Munna, an activist of Ghagutia union unit of Jatiya Party, came to the spot and tried to join the game forcibly.
However, Rubel protested the matter which led to an altercation.
Following this, Munna called in his party leaders and activists to the badminton court.
Later, Munna along with his party men, including president of Ghagutia union unit of Jatiya Party Malek Afsari, again engaged in an altercation with Rubel.
At one stage, they hacked Rubel with sharp weapons, leaving him dead on the spot.
Two other people also sustained injuries in the attack.
Victim’s father Warish Miah filed a case on Saturday against 16 people with Homna Police Station in this connection, said officer-in-charge of the police station Rasul Ahmed Nizami.
Police, meanwhile, arrested four people, including Malek Afsari, over the murder.
In Chittagong: A young man has been stabbed to death over a previous enmity at Jhaldi in Banshkhali upazila.
The deceased is Didarul Alam, about 28 years old, son of Najir Ahmed of the village.
Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station, said Abdul Malek, a neighbour of Didarul, had an altercation with him 10-12 days ago.
As a sequel of the incident, Malek called the young man out of his house on Friday night and stabbed him indiscriminately.
Locals rescued him and took him to Chittagong Medical College where he died in the early hours of Saturday.
In Habiganj: A sexagenarian man was stabbed to death allegedly by his son at Beelpar village in Chunarughat uapzila on Friday evening.
The deceased is Foyez Miah, about 65 years old.
Quoting witness, Km Azmiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Chunarughat Police Station, said Imran Miah, 22, son of the victim, locked in angry altercation with his younger brother Emon Miah, 19, in the evening over a trifling matter.
Following this, Foyez Miah appeared at the scene to pacify the situation.
However, Imran engaged in altercation with his father too.
At one stage, Imran got furious and stabbed his brother and father indiscriminately with a knife, leaving his father dead on the spot and brother injured.
Locals rescued Emon and took him to Chunarughat Upazila Heath Complex, where doctor referred him to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
