Leadership change for party’s better future: Ershad
Dhaka: Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Wednesday said he has brought some changes in the party top leadership to restore the confidence of its followers in it and also for its better future.
Speaking at a programme at his Banani office, he also said he is ready to quit the Jatiya Party chairmanship if the party men want it in its council.
‘Our party council will be held in April. I’ll quit if the council doesn’t want me to continue as its chairman. I’ll hand over charge if the council wants anyone else to perform as party chairman.’
The programme was arranged to formally hand over charges to party’s new co-chairman GM Quader and secretary general Ruhul Amin Howlader.
About the removal of party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, he said the way he had made him secretary and the same way he relived him.
‘Babul could have remained secretary general until the party’s council in April. But he broke organisational discipline by announcing Raushon as acting chairman challenging my decision of making GM Quader the party’s co-chairman. So, I relieved him.’
He reiterated that he has no conflict with his wife and leader of the opposition in parliament Raushon Ershad.
The Jatiya Party chairman said he made GM Quader the party co-chairman to leave behind an able successor to lead the party in the future and during the next election as he and Raushon have turned too old.
Ershad said he also made the decision taking into consideration the views of the people of Rangpur as it is the stronghold of the party.
He said the post of co-chairman will be included in the party charter after taking approval in the party’s council.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ershad at an emergency press conference at his Banani office removed Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu as the party secretary general and replaced him with Ruhul Amin Howlader as disputes over the party leadership have taken a turn for the worse recently.
On Monday night, Ziauddin Bablu announced Raushon Ershad as the party acting chairman, a day after Ershad made his brother GM Quader party’s co-chairman.
Ershad on Sunday announced his younger brother GM Quader as the party co-chairman at a press conference at its Rangpur office.
