7 killed in separate road accidents

Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in four districts in last 24 hours.

In Khulna: A man and his daughter were killed and three other members injured in a road accident at Morelganj end of the Baleshwar Bridge on Pirojpur-Bagerhat road on Sunday night.

The deceased are Touhiduzzaman, a businessman, and his daughter Tasmina, a class VII student of Khulna Collegiate Girls’ School, residents of Nirala residential area in Khulna city.

On Sunday night, when Touhiduzzaman along with his family members was returning home after visiting Kuakata, the microbus, carrying them, overturned and plunged into ditch around 10:00 pm, leaving him dead on the spot and his wife and their three children injured, said victim’s brother Ahmed.

Later, the injured were taken to a private clinic in Khulna city but Tasmina died on way to Khulna.

In Chittagong: Two vegetable traders were killed and two others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda upazila here early Monday.

Police said the accident took place around 3:45 am when a Chittagong-bound vegetable-leaden truck coming from Chandina of Comilla hit a stationed truck in Shitalpur area, leaving two traders dead on the spot and driver and helper injured.

The bodies of the two deceased - Abdur Rab, hailing from Barura upazila of Comilla and Siddikur Rahman, hailing from Chandina upazila - were sent to morgue for autopsy, said Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Baro Aulia Highway Police Station.

The injured were taken to hospital.

In Comilla: A truck helper was killed when a covered van hit a truck on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Hatatoli area in Sadar Dakhshin upazila early Monday.

The deceased is Arafat Rahman Rifat, son of Abdul Matin, a resident of Daulatpur village in Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district.

Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Maynamati Highway Police, said that the accident took place around 6:30 am when the covered van hit the truck, leaving the helper dead on the spot and truck driver and covered van helper injured.

The injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College and Hospital.

Police seized the vehicles.

In Jessore: Two people were killed and another one was injured in separate road accidents at Shantola near Jessore Cantonment on Jessore-Jhenidah road here on Sunday.

The deceased are Mongol Gazi, and Abdur Rahim, from Maheshpur upazila of Jhenidah.

On Sunday morning, when Mongol Gazi was going to a saloon a microbus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot, said victim's son Jalal Hossain.

Meanwhile, when tailor Abdur Rahman was going to Jessore from Jhenidah riding a motorbike a truck crashed into the bike around 11am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Masudur Rahman, who was also on the same bike with Abdur, sustained critical injuries and was admitted to Jessore General Hospital, said Dr M Abdur Rashid.
