Sheikh Hasina in Sylhet after 4 years

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went to Sylhet on Thursday on a day-long tour to join the diamond jubilee function of Madan Mohan College and to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of 22 development schemes.

The Prime Minister reached the MAG Osmani International Airport from Dhaka by an Air Force helicopter at about 11:55am.

Sheikh Hasina went to the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) in the city and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) on the edge of the city and offer prayers at the mazars of two renowned Muslim saints.

The prime minister will also address a public rally to be organised jointly by Sylhet district and city units of AL at Alia Madrasah Ground in the afternoon.

It will be her first formal visit to Sylhet after the Awami League government has taken office for the second consecutive term with an overwhelming victory in the last general election held on 5 January, 2014.

The Prime Minister will then join the diamond jubilee function of Madan Mohan College at about 12:05pm in the city.

After offering Zohr prayers and having lunch, Sheikh Hasina will go to Alia Madrasah ground, from where she will inaugurate 10 projects and lay the foundation stones of 12 schemes. Later, she will address a public meeting there.

The 10 projects are Dr MA Wazed Mian ICT Institute Building at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith Sports Complex, Sylhet APBN Barack Bhaban, 30-bed Khadimpara Hospital in Sadar upazila, Divisional Passport and Visa Office, 100-bed Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmad Specialized Child hospital, Central Library Building of Sylhet Agriculture University, Osmani Nagar Thana Bhaban, Jointapur Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defence and a hostel for the people with disabilities.

Besides, Hasina will lay the foundation stones of Sylhet Outer Stadium, the upward expansion work of the female police dormitory, the construction works of divisional and district office of the Department of Narcotics Control and Tamabil Land Port Building, the under-construction Sylhet ICT Park, Gazi Burhan (RA) Mazar Mosque and link road, the construction work of Divisional Health Directorate and Civil Surgeon Office, the Divisional and District NSI Office, Shahparan Thana Bhaban and development work of three roads.
