‘Cattle thief’ killed in Faridpur mob beating

Faridpur: A suspected cattle thief was killed in a mob beating at Sadipur in Sadar upazila of Faridpur early on Sunday.
The deceased is Mati Sheikh, in his twenties, a resident of Bilmamudpur village.
Quoting locals, police said a group of cattle thieves, including Mati, came to Sadipur village riding on a truck around 3:30am.
Later, they snuck in some houses in the village and started unbinding the cows.
Sensing the matter, villagers gathered together, chased the cattle thieves and managed to catch Mati.
The agitating villagers gave a tremendous thrashing to Mati, leaving him critically injured.
Later, Mati died while he was being moved to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, said officer-in-charge of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Nazim Uddin.
The villagers also set fire to the truck taken by the thieves.
On information, fire fighters appeared on the spot and put out the blaze, the OC added.
