Gaibandha: Lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) Golam Mostofa Ahmed died undergoing treatment at a Dhaka Hospital on Tuesday morning after being injured in a road accident.

The MP breathed his last at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at about 8:45am, confirmed Golam Mostofa’s nephew Ripon Mia.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 12:00pm, said a PID handout.

Earlier, on November 18, MP Golam Mostafa, along with his two associates, was traveling to Dhaka riding on a microbus.

When the vehicle reached Natiapara, it collided with a North Bengal-bound bus, leaving the MP and his two associates—Shahjahan and Manjur— injured.

The injured were first taken to Mirzapur Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Tangail General Hospital.

As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to CMH in Dhaka where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Golam Mostafa was elected MP on March 22 2017 after death of former MP Manzurul Islam Liton.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury have expressed profound shock at the death of the lawmaker.

In a condolence message, the Speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
