Dhaka: A 20-bed field hospital, built by the Iranian Red Crescent, has started its operation in Cox’s Bazar to provide healthcare services to Rohingyas and Bangladeshi residents.

The hospital is equipped with various sections, including medical services, nursing care, gynecology, environment health, nutrition and psychological support.

The hospital, inaugurated on Monday, has been specifically built in an area so that both Rohingyas and Bangladeshi residents may benefit from its services, said the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Praising the efforts made by the Iranian Red Crescent Society in building the hospital as an excellent example of health and treatment unit, WHO representative David Wightwick requested the head of the hospital to cooperate with his organisation on the prevention of the spread of communicable diseases.

‘From the very beginning of the forced migration of Rohingya Muslims, the government of Iran has been sending considerable reliefs and aid to Bangladesh,’ said chargé d’ affaires at the Iranian Embassy Ibrahim Sahfiei.

‘The expenditure pertaining to establishing this hospital and running it including medicine and medical equipment, have been hefty but we’ve covered all the costs because we believe it’s our humanitarian and Muslim duty to do so,’ he said.
