‘I was blindfolded, taken to unknown place’, says Utpal

Kidnappers blindfolded him and took him to an unknown place in a microbus, said journalist Utpal Das, who went missing over two months ago and left by ‘kidnappers’ in Narayanganj on early Wednesday.
‘I was taken to a place where I had to stay in a tin-roofed house. I was not tortured there, they provided me food regularly but some masked men used to demand money,’ he told local journalists after returning home in Narsingdi with Bhulta thana police of Narayanganj.
‘I couldn’t see their faces as they used to come to me wearing masks,’ he added, reports the UNB.
Utpal said he had been abducted from in front of Dhanmondi’s Star Kebab restaurant on October 10 last while he was talking to one of his relatives over phone.
Utpal, son of Chittaranan Das of Raipura upazila of Narsingdi, is a senior correspondent for online news portal purbapashchimbd.news.
On Tuesday night, a microbus dropped him off at a CNG filling station of Bhulta area in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila.
Utpal then called his family members from a nearby shop and informed about his location.
Later Bhulta police rescued him along with his family members.
Police then took him to Bhulta police outpost and handed him over to his parents.
His family members took him to Narsingdi’s Raipura early Wednesday.
Officer-in-charge of Raipura police station Delwar Hossain said Utpal is now staying with his parents and police have taken measurers for ensuring his safety.
