‘Knowledge Fair’ on sexual and reproductive health and rights

Dhaka: Share-Net Bangladesh organised a day-long ‘Knowledge Fair’ on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) on 21 December at Long Beach Suits at Gulshan area of the city.
The Knowledge Fair was hosted jointly by Red Orange Media and Communications and James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, says a press release.
In the fair, Share-Net Bangladesh discussed adolescent sexual and reproductive health and needs. Mushfiqa Zaman Satiar, Senior Adviser-SRHR and Gender of The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Nethelands, was the guest of honour of the fair.
‘If the youth have proper knowledge about sexual and reproductive health, it will help them to get over their inhibitions to talk about such matters’, she spoke to the attendance.
‘With proper knowledge, a proper medium of dissemination is also necessary. Share-Net is such a medium dedicated to inform the populace about sexual and reproductive health rights’, she added.
Lawmaker and Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Youth and Sports Nahim Razzaq was also present in the fair as the special guest. He was adamant that the information disseminated via Share-Net should be in an accessible language.
‘The language of Share-Net should be Bangla and devoid of any difficulties’, he said.
‘If youth are incorporated with the activities of Share-Net, they would have equal access to all walks of people’, he further said.
Razzaq also stressed the importance of dissemination of proper information to the youth.
In his welcome speech, Managing Director of RedOrange Media and Communications Arnob Chakraborty said, ‘Share-Net Bangladesh has more than 600 members now. www.share-netbangladesh.org link is for all of us to join and reap the benefits of.’
He urged everyone to join Share-Net and know about sexual and reproductive health in details.
Sabina Faiz Rashid, Dean and Professor, James P Grant School of Public Health of BRAC University, was all about creativity in her welcome speech.
‘Share-Net Uses creative and easily translatable method to disperse hard to bite subject matters’, she said.
They both are Steering Committee members of Share-Net Bangladesh.
There was a brief plenary session on adolescent SRHR followed by an interactive session. The plenary session covered the presentation and discussion on adolescent health, adolescent rights and comprehensive sexuality education for the adolescent in the context of present scenario and future routes in Bangladesh.
Through this knowledge fair, Share-Net Bangladesh aims to bring all these organisations together under a common platform where they can build up the network and work together in future.
