Dhaka: Police arrested a suspected mugger from Doyaganj area of the capital early Sunday in connection with the death of a six-month-old boy falling off his mother’s lap from a rickshaw during a snatching incident on December 18.

The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Rajib, about 20 years old, son of Bhangari Kalam of Dupkhola Fakirbari village in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur. He has been living at Ghuntighar Railway Slum area of ​​Gandaria.

Acting on secret information, a team of Jatrabari Police Station conducted a drive and arrested Rajib around 1am.

A gang of muggers swooped on a rickshaw carrying Aklima Khatun and her child Arafat at Doyaganj in the early morning of December 18. As the muggers snatched Aklima’s vanity bag, her six-month-old child Arafat fell onto the road from her lap and sustained injuries.

The child was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station on that day.
