Dhaka: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Monday alleged that the government is conspiring to have revoked the full verdict of the Supreme Court against its verdict on the 16th amendment to the constitution through filing a review petition.

SCBA president adv Zainul Abedin came up with the allegation at a press briefing at the association’s South Hall.

‘Justice SK Sinha was ousted by a judicial coup for delivering the verdict on the 16th amendment. The verdict was not against any specific person or group but the government wants to run the judiciary as per its whim to gain its own interest. The court has to follow its directive, or else, others will face the same fate of SK Sinha,’ he said.

‘One or two observations of a verdict may conflict with the government’s opinion but according to the Attorney General, the review petition placed 94 arguments against the verdict. It appears that the government is trying to establish its full control over the judiciary tactfully,’ Zainul Abedin added.

‘We believe that among the seven judges of the Appellate Division who delivered the judgment, five are still in the Appellate Division. They’ll scrap the petition in line with their previous judgment,’ he said.
