Jamaat leader held in Dhaka
Police detained a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Mugda in the Dhaka city on Friday night on charge of financing violent activities during the ongoing countrywide blockade enforced by BNP-led 20-Party Alliance.
The detainee was Shamsur Rahman, deputy registrar of Bangladesh Islami University (Dhaka campus).
Tipped off, a team of Mugda police conducted a drive in the area and held him at night, said DMP deputy commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman.
Shamsur Rahman was detained on charge of financing terrorist activities during the ongoing countrywide non-stop blockade enforced by the alliance, added Masudur Rahman.
He had direct link to various incidents of violence at the city’s Khilgaon, Sabujbagh, Motijheel and Shahjahanpur, said the police officer.
