Court summons Khaleda Zia on 3 March
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Monday ordered BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear before the court in a sedition case filed against her for remarks about the number of Liberation War martyrs.
Earlier, a sedition case was filed against the BNP chairperson requesting the court to issue an arrest warrant against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for raising question about the figures of Liberation War martyrs.
Supreme Court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi filed a case petition with Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Rashed Talukder’s court on Monday morning.
The court conducted hearing on the petition at about 11:00am and ordered Khaleda Zia to appear before the court on 3 March.
Former Home minister Advocate Sahara Khatun was present during the hearing on behalf of the plaintiff.
Khaleda Zia raised question over the figure of Liberation War martyrs while addressing a rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal on 21 December at the Institute of Engineers in Dhaka marking the Victory Day.
Without mentioning anyone’s name Khaleda Zia also said, ‘He didn’t want independence. He wanted to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan.’
Earlier, on Wednesday, a Supreme Court Lawyer sent a legal notice to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia asking her to seek unconditional apology from the nation for raising question about the figures of Liberation War martyrs.
Earlier, on 24 December, Raihan Faruki Imam, a resident of Narail, filed a defamation case against the former Prime Minister with Narail cognisance court for her remarks on figure of the Liberation War martyrs.
