The Law Ministry on Monday shifted 16 cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to the makeshift court at Bakshibazar in the city.

The ministry issued three gazette notifications in this regard, reports the UNB.

Talking to reporters at the secretariat over the government decision, Law Minster Anisul Haque said the cases against Khaleda Zia were shifted to a single court for security concern, not for any political reason.

‘Each time Khaleda appears before the court for hearings, she brings around 300-400 people with her. Considering the security measures of both sides, the ministry has taken the decision to hold the trial proceedings of 16 cases in one single court,’ he said.

Replying to a quarry of reporters, the Minister said, ‘The shifting of the cases to the makeshift court not for speeding up the trial proceedings, the trial will continue in due process.’

Before talking to reporters, the minister held a meeting with the speaker of London Tower Hamlet Sabina Akthar when he sought the repatriation of the convicted killers of intellectuals during the 1971 Liberation War.

Anisul Haque hoped that the United Kingdom will return convicted war criminals Chowdhury Moinuddin and Ashrafuzzaman.
