Three killed, five injured in road accidents

Three people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Rangpur and Noakhali on Tuesday.

In Rangpur: Two persons were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Boiragiganj point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur Police Station Mozammel Haque said the accident occurred in the area at 8:30 am when a Rajshahi bound passenger bus from Rangpur collided head-on with a Lalmonirhat bound passenger bus from Chittagong, leaving seven persons injured.

Police with the help of local people rescued the injured persons and sent them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where the attending physician declared two of them dead.

The deceased were identified as Harun-Ar-Rashid, 35, of Hajirhat area in Rangpur city and helper of the Rajshahi bound passenger bus Lal Mian, 50.

‘A case was filed in this connection with Mithapukur Thana,’ the OC added.

In Noakhali: A man was killed as a truck ran over him at Choumohoni Bazar under Begumganj upazila of the district this morning.
The deceased is M Ashif, about 18 years old, son of M Alamgir, a resident of Hajipur village of the upazila.
Police said the accident occurred in the area at about 8 am when the truck ran over Ashif. He died on the spot.
