Savar: A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Bank Colony in Savar municipality area early on Tuesday.

The deceased is Sultana, wife of Amir Hossain, a resident of the area.

Police said Amir had demanded Tk5 lakh from Sultana as dowry a few days ago.

Failing to get the money, he started torturing Sultana.

At one stage, Amir beat and strangulated Sultana over the issue in the dead of night leaving her dead on the spot.

Later, he locked the room.

On Wednesday morning, her neighbours did not get any response and informed police, reports local news agency UNB.

After breaking the lock of Sultana’s house, police and local people entered her room and spotted her body lying on the floor.

The Savar model police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Amir went into hiding after the incident.

The police said there were several injury marks on the body.

A case was filed.
