Khulna: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life term imprisonment in Ekusey Padak winning journalist Manik Saha murder case, from bus stand area of Satkhira town on Monday night.

The arrestee is Billal Bepari.

A team of RAB conducted a drive at night and arrested Billal, said assistant superintendent of Police Bazlur Rahman of RAB-6.

The arrestee was brought to Khulna on Tuesday morning, said the RAB official.

Manik Saha, a stringer of BBC Bangla Service, senior reporter of daily New Age and Dainik Sangbad and Khulna chapter president of Amnesty International, was awarded with Ekushey Padak posthumously.  

He was killed in a bomb attack on January 15 in 2004 at Chhota Mirzapur, in Khulna city.

On November 30, 2016, Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced nine people, including Billal, to life imprisonment for the murder.
