Presidential election schedule Thursday: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday said the schedule for the presidential election will be announced on Thursday to arrange the polls any day from February 18 to 20.

‘The presidential election will be held any day from February 18-20. We’ll announce the election schedule tomorrow (Thursday),’ he said after a meeting with Speaker Dr Shirin Shramin Chaudhury at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, reports the UNB.

The CEC said he met the Speaker as per the rules to discuss the election.

Responding to a query about the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election, he said the EC has nothing to do about the polls after the court stayed it. ‘The EC had announced the polls schedule as per the rules,’ he said.

Mentioning that they have already received a certified copy of the court order, Nurul Huda said the next course of action will be decided after discussions.

About the local government election, he said, the Election Commission has three functions — arrangement of election, announcement of schedule and finalisation of polling stations. ‘The local government division finalises the demarcation while the EC conducts the local election following a request of the division,’ he said.

About the voter list, the CEC said there is a problem with the electoral rolls in two city corporations of Dhaka.
