Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said her government has been working very hard for further development of the country by making the economy more vibrant.

‘Our main goal is to ensure development for all and make the country’s economy vibrant,’ she said when newly appointed South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Ahn Seong-doo met her at her office here in the morning.

After the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanaul Karim briefed reporters.

While talking about development of different sectors in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said ICT facilities are being expanded to rural areas.

Recalling her visit to South Korea, the Prime Minister said she was very impressed seeing Bangladesh’s economic progress. Bangladesh can also learn Korean experience in this regard, she added.

The Prime Minister assured the Korean ambassador of extending her all-out cooperation during his stay in Bangladesh.

At the meeting, Ahn Seong-doo highly praised Bangladesh’s development in socioeconomic field under the charismatic stewardship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina adding that the country could be a ‘new development model’.

In this regard, the new envoy said Korea has been providing its support to various fields in Bangladesh and is ready to extend more cooperation for the development of Bangladesh.

Terming ICT sector as the most important one, Ahn Seong-doo said his country is working in this field in Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar aiming to turn the island into a ‘digital island’.

Talking about Bangladeshi people working in Korea, the envoy said nearly 14,000 Bangladeshis are working there and they are hard working and efficient ones.

Ahn Seong-doo said Korea has taken all measures to ensure healthcare and housing facilities for Bangladeshi workers.

PM’s International Affairs Advisor Dr Gowher Rizvi was, among others, present at the meeting.
