Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Thursday said the 21st presidential election will be held on February 18.

The CEC announced the election schedule at a press briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban in the afternoon.

According to the schedule, the last date for the submission of nomination paper is February 5 while that for withdrawal is February 10. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on February 7, reports the UNB.

According to 123 of the constitution, ‘In the case of a vacancy in the office of President occurring by reason of the expiration of his term of office an election to fill the vacancy shall be held within the period of ninety to sixty days prior to the date of expiration of the term.’

Abdul Hamid assumed office as President on April 24, 2013, and his five-year term will expire on April 23.
