BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday criticised the Home Minister for what he said issuing a threat to their party saying it was not his justified action before the announcement of the verdict on the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

‘We still didn’t get the verdict. So, we can’t legally and morally give reaction to a verdict before its announcement,’ he said, reports the UNB.

The BNP leader further said, ‘The Home Minister today (Friday) talked about it but holding an important post he shouldn’t make such comment as the verdict is not yet pronounced. His comment has only exposed what the government is planning.’

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the residence of noted writer and novelist Shawkat Ali, who passed away on Thursday, at Tikatuli in the city.

Earlier in the day, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamalsaid law enforcement agencies will take stern actions if any one tries to create chaos centring the verdict of the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

The Home Minister came up with the remarks replying to a question at a function organised on the occasion of the Metropolitan Family Day in the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Old Dhakaon Friday.

The verdict of Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman is scheduled to be delivered on February 8 next.

Fakhrul alleged that the Zia Orphanage Trust case trial has been completed hurriedly as the government is determined to hold the next polls keeping BNP chief Khaleda Zia out of it.

‘Our leader’s lawyer has repeatedly been saying that justice hurried is justice buried but the government is not paying heed to it,’ he added.

The BNP leader alleged that the ruling party men are issuing threats to BNP though it has not yet announced any political programme.

Fakhrul said even the Prime Minister and some ministers are making comments on the ongoing trial of the case.

Referring to Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad’s comment that Khaleda Zia will have to go to jail within a few days, the BNP leader said.

The remarks of the ruling party men and its alliance leaders have demonstrated that they know about the verdict and they are prepared for everything.
