DMP talks tough against publishing books hurting religious sentiments
Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Tuesday warned that actions will be taken if anyone publishes books hurting religious sentiment and communal harmony.
The DMP commissioner came up with the warning while inspecting Amar Ekusey Book Fair venues at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan.
A surveillance committee has been formed to monitor whether any book is being which may instigate chaos, hurt religious sentiments and destroy communal harmony, he said.
The DMP chief also requested publishers not to publish and allow display of the books attacking religious sentiment in the stalls.
He assured that if any blogger feels insecure, law enforcers will arrange special security for him or her.
All the security measures have been taken to ensure safety at the fair venue so everyone can enjoy the fair in a festive mood, said Asaduzzaman Miah.
Police and Rab watchtowers, metal dictators, archways, and sweeping teams will be deployed as part of the security measures.
The book fair venues will be hawker free and the areas will be brought under CCTV surveillance, said the DMP commissioner.
The month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair is set to begin on the Bangla Academy premises and at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on February 1.
