160kg illegal medicines seized at Shahjalal Airport

Dhaka: Customs Intelligence officials on Wednesday seized 160 kilograms of illegal foreign medicines from the freight unit at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate director general Moinul Khan said the medicines had been brought from Bangkok by Thai Airways.
However, he did not mention when the flight arrived in Dhaka.
The medicines are believed to be of Indian origin and do not meet local standards, said Monirul Khan.
They were brought to the freight unit in violation of the import policy order, he added.
The drugs are mostly for treatment of cholesterol, fertility, heart, blood thinning and pain relief.
The market value of the seized medicines was estimated at Tk one crore.
