Khaleda Zia takes different route on way back home from court
In the wake of Tuesday’s attack on law enforcers reportedly by her party men near the High Court, police on Thursday changed the route of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade on her way back home from a special court at Bakhsibazar in the city.
Unlike in the past, the BNP chief’s motorcade was turned towards Gulistan from Chankharpul as she was returning to her Gulshan residence around 2:20pm after appearing before the Special Judge Court-5, said her media wing member Shamsuddin Didar, reports the UNB.
Later, he said, the BNP chief returned home around 3:35pm through the changed route via Puranapaltan, Kakrail, Moghbazar, Tejgaon, Mohakhali and Banani crossings with police protection.
As the route was suddenly changed, Didar said BNP leaders and activists gathered at Zero Point and Puranapaltan crossing to receive their chairperson.
Later, they escorted her motorcade to Moghbazar Rail Crossing.
He said the BNP chief used to return home from the special court through the route via Chankharpul, Dowel Chattar and the High Court crossing escorted by huge number of BNP leaders and activists.
On Tuesday, police detained two BNP activists from High Court area while Khaleda was going to a special court at Bakshibazar in the morning, and kept them inside a prison van under police guard.
Several hundred BNP leaders and activists started a demonstration in front of the High Court when Khaleda was returning to her Gulshan residence after appearing before the court in the afternoon.
At one stage, they reportedly attacked police and ‘snatched’ the two detained BNP activists vandalising the prison van and destroying two rifle butts.
Later, police detained 69 BNP leaders and activists from the area.
However, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday claimed that ‘intruders’, not BNP men, attacked police near the High Court during their chairperson’s way back home on that day.
