Dhaka: An 18-year-old woman was reportedly gang raped after responding to a birthday party invitation at a hotel in Dhaka’s Banani.

Banani police sub-inspector (SI) Abdul Jabbar told NTV Online a case was lodged for gang-raping the victim overnight at a city hotel as she came to attend a birthday party.

Police held two people for their alleged involvement in this connection. The detainees are Rajib Ahmed, in his twenties, and his friend Rubel Hossain Joy, around 26 years old.

SI said the victim is a resident of Rupnagar area of Mirpur. She filed the case with Banani police under woman and child repression prevention act at about 8:30pm on Sunday.

The case statement said the victim met Rajib through phone calls few days back. Rajib invited her to his birthday party at The Star Guest House in Banani on Saturday night.

The girl went to the guest house at about 8:30pm and found there Rajib along with his friend Joy. Later, both of confined her and raped her overnight.

After being freed by the accused, the victim went to the police station and filed a case for gang rape. SI said Rajib and Joy were detained immediately after the victim lodged the complaint.

Meanwhile, the victim was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s One Stop Crisis Centre for medical test.

Earlier, on 6 May 2017, a university student filed a case with Banani Police Station in city accusing five people.

Of the accused, Shafaat Ahmed, 26, and Nayem Ashraf, 30, were sued for raping the two female students of a private university while Sadman Sakif, 24, Shafat’s driver Billal, 26, and his unnamed bodyguard for abetting the crime.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff along with her friend went to a residential hotel at Banani to attend the birthday party of Shafat on 28 March.

The two prime accused—Shafat and Nayem—confined them to two rooms of the hotel at gunpoint after the rooftop birthday party was over at midnight. The two girls were made to drink liquor before being raped. Shafat raped the plaintiff while Nayem her friend.

Months after this, a woman was reportedly been raped after responding to a birthday party invitation at Banani on 4 July 2017.  The victim of the incident filed a case with Banani police claiming son of a businessman allegedly raped her overnight and thrown her away on the road.
