Over 500 BNP men sued in 9 districts since Sunday night

At least 80 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat were held and 551 were sued in nine districts over the country since Sunday night.

Police held them from Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Sherpur, Bogra, Nilphamari, Chandpur, Munshiganj, Satkhira and Narayanganj districts.

In Narayanganj, Detective Branch (DB) of Narayanganj district police arrested 10 leaders and activists including Nazrul Islam Khan, International Relations assistant secretary of BNP central executive committee, and Advocate Shakhawat Hossain Khan, vice-president of Narayanganj City unit BNP from Signboard area of the district on Monday morning.

Police also filed six cases with five police stations of the district against 500 BNP men including Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, president of the district unit BNP under Explosive and Special Powers Act, said district police office sources.

In Chandpur, police in a special drive arrested at least 16 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat from different places across eight upazilas of the district from Sunday night to Monday morning, said Md Kabir Hossain (DIO) of Chandpur district office.

Several cases were filed with different police station of the district against the arrestees, the DIO added.

In Satkhira, police in a drive arrested least 12 BNP-Jamaat men from Itgachha Eidgah premises in Sadar upazila on Monday morning, said Maruf Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

He said on secret information of gathering of at least 50-60 BNP-Jamaat men planning to carry out subversive activities, a team of police conducted drive and held them.

In Nilphamari, police in special drives arrested at least 23 accused of different cases including 7 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat from different places over six upalizas of the district on Sunday night to Monday morning, said Additional SP Abul Bashar Mohammad Atiqur Rahman.

In Sherpur, police arrested Md Hazral Ali, general secretary of district unit BNP among four others five leaders and activists in different charges, Additional SP Md Aminul Islam.

He said police held Hazrat Ali from his residence Paschim Sheri area of the district in case filed against him under explosive Act.

In Bogra, police in special drives arrested at least 19 leaders and activists of BNP from different places over the district on Sunday night to Monday morning, police sources said.

Sanatan Chakrabarty, Additional SP of the district police said police conducted special drives over the district.

In Kishoreganj, police arrested at least six leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies including Mazaharul Islam, general secretary of the district unit BNP, said ASM Iqbal Hayat, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station.

In Sylhet, police filed a case against some 51 leaders and activists including president and general secretary of Bishwanath upazila unit BNP under Special Powers Act on Sunday night.

Police also arrested four BNP men in this case said, sub-ispectgor Shaiful Islam of the police station.

In Munshiganj, police arrested Delwar Hossain, former general secretary of Sreenagar upazila unit BNP from his residence at Deulbhog Dowahata area in the upazila on early Monday, said Farid Uddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Sreenagar Police Station.

Meanwhile a court here in Jessore sent seven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islam of Chaugachha upazila unit to jail in a sabotage case when they surrendered to the court.
