Food Minister Qamrul Islam alerted people on Wednesday to guard against any anarchy after the pronouncement of verdict in a graft case against BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

‘If Khaleda Zia is convicted in tomorrow’s verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) members may create disorder in all over the country, so stay alert on the streets about any of their wrongdoings and make sure public safety by co-operating with the law enforcing agencies,’ the minister said while addressing a human chain in front of National Press Club this morning, reports the UNB.

Bangladesh Freedom Fighters’ Alliance Central Command organised the human chain to drum support against indiscipline in the name of political protests.

Qamrul said nobody knows what will be the verdict but Khaleda got frightened, amended her party’s constitution suddenly and BNP men are threatening to create unrest centring the verdict.

Food Minister asked the freedom fighters, Awami League (AL) activists and general people to be watchful for some days after the verdict.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Publicity and Publication Secretary of AL, accused Khaleda of deliberately causing delays in court’s proceedings. He said it was a BNP ploy to drag the verdict to election year and use it as an excuse to boycott the poll.

Among others some freedom fighters also spoke at the human chain programme presided over by Md Monirul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Freedom Fighters’ Alliance Central Command.
