Munshiganj: A suspected robber was beaten to death in a mob attack at Velua village in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj early on Monday.

The deceased is Babul Hossain, in his forties, a resident of Velua village of the upazila.

A gang of robbers, numbering around 20, swooped on the house of one Ayub Ali Sheikh and looted valuables after keeping

Ayub’s family members hostage in the early hours of the day, said Tongibari Police Officer-in-charge Yeardous Hasan.

Hearing their hue and cry, local people rushed in and chased the robbers. At one stage, they caught one robber while the others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the mob beat the suspected robber up mercilessly, leaving him badly injured. The injured was taken to Tongibari Upazila Health Complex here he succumbed to his injuries.
