2 teachers and 24 students held over ‘question leak’

Dhaka: A total of 24 examinees and two teachers were arrested over the leakage of Physics question paper of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in Chittagong, Jamalpur, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts on Tuesday.

At least 28 others were expelled for violating discipline in the halls during the examinations.

In Chittagong, the district administration arrested at least 16 examinees and expelled 27 others from two examination centres.

On information that some examinees were solving Physics question paper, a team of district administration led by Executive Magistrate Syed Murad Ali conducted a drive at Baowa High School exam centre in the city and arrested nine examinees and expelled 24 others for violating discipline.

All the arrestees and expelled were students of Chittagong Ideal School.

The team also arrested seven examinees and expelled three others from Heiwako exam centre in Fatikchhari upazila while they were solving the question on their mobile phones.

The district administration also seized eight smart phones from their possession, said Mia Abul Kalam Azad, sub-inspector of Datmara Investigation Centre.

In Jamalpur, on secret information a team of law enforcers, led by Sarishabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shaiful Islam and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Firoz Al Mamun, conducted a drive at a house nearby Sarishabari Reaz Uddin Talukdar School exam centre around 9:00am and arrested two teachers and four female students while they were solving the Physics question paper.

The arrestees were identified as Shahidul Islam Nirab, an English teacher of Children Home Public School, Md Faruque Ahmed, an assistant instructor of Jamalpur District Secondary Education office, also a teacher of the same school and the four female SSC examinees of the school, said Rezaul Islam Khan, officer-in-charge of Sarishabari Police Station.

In Dinajpur, local administration in a drive led by Biral Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) ABM Raushan Kabir arrested three SSC examinees from Dhukurjhari High School exam centre.

The arrestees were identified as Nur Islam Nayon, son of Abul Kamal Azad of Farakkabad Majhapara village, Mahfuz Alam, son of Shahinur Islam of Dhongoan village and Riadul Islam, son of Ansarul Azim of Mohanpur villages.

Acting on a tip-off, the UNO conducted a drive at the exam centre around 9:25am and arrested them while they were solving the Physics question paper on their smart phone, said Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Biral Police Station.

Later, Upazila Education Officer Md Touyab Ali filed a case with the police station, the OC added.

A SSC examinee also expelled at Dharmapur High School exam centre for violating the discipline.

In Nilphamari, a SSC examinee was held from Saidpur upazila of the district over the question paper leakage.

UNO Bazlur Rashid conducted a drive at Saidpur Cantonment Board High School exam centre and arrested Jayed Ali from outside of the centre while he was solving the question paper through mobile phone, said Shahjahan Pasha, officer-in-charge of Saidpur Police Station.

A case was filed with the police station against the arrestee under ICT act, the OC added.
