Dhaka: BNP is going to announce another round of action programmes on Thursday demanding the release of its chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.

‘However, the party will not have any programme on Thursday to Saturday,’ BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters at BNP chairperson's Gulshan office on Wednesday night.

‘We'll announce our fresh programmes tomorrow (Thursday) but we won't have any programme on Friday and Saturday,’ he said.

Fakhrul said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi will come up with the announcement of new programmes at a press briefing at the party's Nayapaltan central office.

A special court convicted former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last. She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.

Hours after she was taken to jail, the party announced countrywide demonstrations for Friday and Saturday.

Later, the party announced a three-day programme from Monday to Wednesday demanding her immediate release.

As part of programmes, the party observed a token hunger strike today while formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Monday and staged a sit-in programme in front of party's Nayapaltan central office on Tuesday.
